About Bitzkey
Bitzkey is a small artificial ecology. Every Bitzkey carries a 96-bit genome, three colour words for its mind, its body and how it treats others, and a brain that learns from what happens to it. Plants, grazers, omnivores and predators live, learn, breed and evolve on this map, in real time.
This world never stops. A turn passes every minute, about four years a day, with seasons that sweep across the climate bands, and days and nights that follow the clock in Toronto. Some Bitzkeys are awake by day, some at dawn and dusk, some by night.
The Bitzkey project was started years ago, to teach a best friend programming. He wanted to learn about Python and AI, so it seemed like a natural project. Since then, he has passed away, and the project was finished to honour him. So, Sam Bunn, wherever you are, may you live on through Bitzkeys.
